Fabric Care
We do a lot of work behind the scenes to make sure your garment is eco-friendly – but some of the most important work happens when you care for your TAMGA!
Here are our top tips on how to care for your clothes and the planet.
Tip #1: DO NOT DRY CLEAN
Most dry cleaners use PERC – it’s on the List of Toxic Substance in the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (1999). This chemical can have serious effects on human health and the environment. Do not dry clean TAMGA garments. If you have other clothing to dry clean we recommend using only ‘Green’ or ‘Eco’ dry cleaners (and make sure to ask if they use PERC short for tetrachloroethylene or perchloroethylene).
Tip #2: USE A PLANT-BASED LAUNDRY DETERGENT
Conventional laundry detergent is made from petroleum and contains chemicals that, to put it simply, you don’t want near your body. A safe aleternative are plant-based detergents, which are widely available.
Tip #3: COLD WASH
When washing your TAMGA garment, make sure to use cold water on a gentle cycle. If you’ve got a small stain, no need to wash the whole garment, spot clean it with a small dab of soda water and you’re good as new!
Tip # 4: SKIP THE DRYER
Hang or lay your clothes flat to dry. Not only will you preserve the fabric for much longer keeping it looking fresh, your electricity bill and the planet will thank you.
Tip#5: IRON IF NEEDED
When ironing TAMGA garments, use low to medium heat.
