Great design can’t exist without great materials. At the foundation of every TAMGA garment is a search for the world’s best sustainable fibres. Our journey begins with the raw materials, everything else builds from there.
TENCEL™
We fell in love with TENCEL™ at first touch. This light and airy fabric is sustainably grown from renewable eucalyptus wood and made into fibre using an award-winning closed loop process that recycles 99.8% of water and solvents.
A TAMGA garment made from TENCEL™ uses a fraction of the water, energy and emissions of a conventional viscose or cotton item. Travel happy knowing this eco-friendly and renewable fabric is as good for you as it is to our planet.
LENZING™ ECOVERO™
ECOVERO™ is viscose, made sustainably. Created from renewable and sustainably managed wood pulp, LENZING™ ECOVERO™ uses 88% less water than mainstream viscose and is fully traceable, meaning no old growth forests are cleared to create it.
Our ECOVERO™ is a custom fabric created just for TAMGA, made to be super soft, flowy and durable, with slightly more structure than our Micro-TENCEL™. We love the way that our water-saving dyes react with this fibre, creating vivid colours that won't fade with washing.
European Flax Linen
Linen, also known as flax, is one of our world’s most sustainable and low-impact fibres. When grown in its natural habitat - a stretch of land crossing through Belgium, France and the Netherlands - Linen needs little more than the region’s natural rainfall to thrive. It’s non-GMO, free of pesticides and absorbs more carbon than it releases.
Our Linen is certified by European Flax ®, ensuring full traceability. We blend this magical fibre with our TENCEL™ to create a luxurious sustainable fabric that’s wonderfully soft and supple to the touch with the texture and breathability that Linen is famous for.
Lenzing Modal®
Our comfortable yet luxurious Modal® fibres allowed us to finally call off our search for the perfect basics fabric. Superior to touch and wear, the eco-friendly Modal® hails from sustainably managed beechwood forests in Europe.
Many wood-based fabrics are being sourced from ancient and endangered forests, reducing our planet's ability to store carbon and wiping out endangered animals like the Orangutan in Indonesia. Our Lenzing certified Modal® fabric is harvested from FSC-certified plots giving you a piece of mind when wearing TAMGA basics.
Low-Impact Dyes
It's no secret that at TAMGA we love colour - but the conventional dyes used on most clothing are toxic to people and our planet. At TAMGA, our vivid colours come from low-impact dyes that use 70% less water than conventional synthetic dyes. Our OEKO-Tex 100 certified colours are free of any harmful chemicals and react beautifully to our sustainable and ethically sourced fabrics.
Anywhere from 60-70% of dyes used in the textile industry contain suspected carcinogens, heavy metals and other toxic chemicals. We refuse to include any of these dyes or chemicals in our designs and ensure that our dyehouses only use the most environmentally and ethically responsible products.
Eco Packaging
Why stop at the clothing when disposable packaging is such a problem? Every detail matters to us and our planet!
Each TAMGA order is carefully packed into an unbleached and GOTS certified organic cotton tote bag. These eco bags can be used to pack your TAMGA garments into when travelling, store your shoes in, or a million other uses! Our thank you cards are printed on 100% recycled thank you cards and even the little things like our hang-tags are made from 100% post-consumer paper by a social enterprise in Bali.
Our shipping envelopes are 100% compostable and are made from sustainably-sourced plants. The envelope can be re-used or placed in your compost, garden soil or green waste to safely break down over time.
The Good Stuff
We are proudly partnered with a Toronto-based environmental research firm to compare the impact of our garments to fashion made from conventional viscose, a non-eco fabric that's similar in function and feel to our fibres.
On each TAMGA product page you'll see the exact water, energy and emissions that are saved through a TAMGA purchase. On our home page, we share the real-time impact we've achieved from all purchases to date.
